How to Pack your Home

What is the best way to pack? Is there a right way to pack? No matter where you live, you need to take some time to think about how you are going to pack for your big move. When you have taken the plunge to move and then found the place you want to move to you now need to figure out how you are going to get everything you own from one place to the next. You may think it is a simple task, taking everything you have, sticking it in a box and then moving it…if only! For one thing, are you sure that everything you own you want to take with you? There may be a lot of excess items that are hanging around in the land that you call home that have had their day and now it is time to say goodbye. You need to have a clear out before you start packing. You may want to donate items, bin them or sell them. Whatever you choose to do make sure you do not take stuff with you that you no longer need or want. Now it comes to packing the items up. Are you going to do it yourself or are you going to get someone else to do it for you? There are many removal companies that offer a packing service. They will come into your home and pack all your items into boxes, put them into the removal van and then transport them to your new home. Regardless of what you do there is one vital box that you need to pack yourself and keep with you on the day of moving; the ‘need it today’ box. In this box you should make sure that you have packed a kettle, tea bags, coffee, cups, milk, spoons, sugar, toilet rolls and a tool box. There may be more items that you can think of adding, the items that you will need near at hand on the day. If you have children it will need to include nappies, toys and food. If you have pets it will be water and food bowls and food. You need to suit this ‘need it today’ box to your needs. If you are packing yourself then the first thing you need to gather for the day are boxes! Ask your local supermarket to keep various sized boxes aside for you. Also gather newspaper, bubble wrap and tissue paper. These will help protect your more fragile items. Wrap them well and they will last the journey, short or far! You will also need stick labels and a marker pen to mark the boxes with their contents. When you arrive at your new home you will want to move boxes to the right rooms before you start emptying their contents, you do not want to have to start opening boxes and then finding out you need to move them from one place to another. The main thing you need on moving day is a cool head, which is an easier thing to say than to achieve. If you take your time to sort out where things are going and get rid of unwanted items beforehand then you will make the whole moving day experience a bit more easier to handle.
